Nuclear Presidents - Fingers on the Button

Published by sbdavis549 at 8:49 am under American history, history, presidency Edit This

Facing Down the Bad GuysSince the dawn of the nuclear age in August 1945 the United States has had twelve presidents who had access to the Doomsday button. (photo at left: Gary Cooper as a strong silent type facing down the bad guys in High Noon)

The list is asĀ  follows:

  • Truman
  • Eisenhower
  • Kennedy
  • Johnson
  • Nixon
  • Ford
  • Carter
  • Reagan
  • G.H. Bush
  • Clinton
  • G.W. Bush
  • Obama

Which ones do you think did the best job of keeping the peace? Why?

Under which president did you feel most comfortable with the world situation?

Who did the best job of keeping the Cold War cold?

Do you think there will be a nuclear war someday?

I would love to hear your thoughts on these questions. Please post your opinions. By the way my personal favorite is Ronald Reagan and my answer for all of the questions. I did think Kennedy did a fantastic job of facing the Soviets down during a hot point of the Cold War.

I’d go with Reagan. He defeated the Soviet Union and was responsible for downing the wall. Kennedy would be my second pick. Obama would be dead last because he is going to appease our enemies and apologize when it comes down to it.
